Spring was in the air Wednesday night at a private press viewing for Custo Barcelona, Silvia Tcherassi, and Min Agostini for their Spring 2010 collections. Hosted by ASI Marketing Group and held in their SoHo office, magazine and website representatives were given the exclusive opportunity to sift through these three unique designer brands.
While looking at Custo’s garments, I felt a stabbing in my heart to return to Spain. Although I fell in love with the southern city of Sevilla, I was always intrigued by Barcelona, and after having to suddenly cancel a weekend getaway there two years ago, I couldn’t help but regret this decision. Imagining me wearing a flowing dress walking by the warm seaside seems quite appealing this time of year.
Custo’s collection is full of vibrant color, fun prints, and intricate detailing. Despite the loose-fitting fabrics, each piece looks effortlessly breath-taking and will easily compliment a woman’s body. Perhaps I’m biased, but I had trouble taking my eyes off these clothes. The laid-back elegance of the brand will likely continue in popularity among consumers through the next season. A large plasma screen played their runway show from Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, allowing press to view the non-restricting movement of the garments.
Silvia Tcherassi, a native from Columbia, South America, displayed a collection that incorporated bright colors with bold accessories. Strapless dresses, short skirts, and loose-fitting tops mix and match well together, which will enable customers to display their own personality through the garments. I particularly appreciate Silvia’s ability to create long dresses with chic ruffling and her use of feminine prints to create clothes that woman will feel beautiful wearing.
The Min Agostini collection was a bit more focused on architectural construction. Although perhaps less wearable in everyday like than the other two brands, these garments do stand on their own. Most pieces were made in white and other neutral colors, giving the clothes a soft, angelic feel to them. Small, round fabric folds on specific garments gave these looks a floral appeal. When looking at runway stills from New York Fashion Week, the construction serves as a major highlight. Pockets, silhouettes, and head pieces added to the simple yet conceptual collection.
